Our History

West African's story begins in 2012 when it was founded as unofficial state carrier for the Republic of Sahara City, a micro-nation situated between modern-day Mali and Mauritania. To this day it is 50% state-owned by Sahara City.

The airline flew King Air charter flights until 2016, when it began its first scheduled routes with the Bombardier Dash 8. Since then, it's been rapidly expanding its network, dedicating itself to connecting small West African villages, regional capitals, and international destinations in a streamlined network of air travel.

Its home base is Sahara Prestige International Airport in Sahara City. With the advent of the Airbus A220, it seeks to expand into central and eastern Africa to compete with the likes of Ethiopian Airlines.

The airline is now flourishing with new destinations on a regular basis, operating the A220, A321 LR, A350, and 787 aircraft families.
